About Sam Figueroa

I am a young web developer with skills in PHP and XHTML/CSS. I've been working with PHP professionally since 2003. Through out my apprenticeship, higher education, and current work placement.

Currently I'm learning about Ruby on Rails and Magento in my spare time.

Ruby on Rails is very interesting and fascinates me. The degree of detail that went into developing this framework is vexing. I find it so much fun to use for private projects I do. I've been hooked on Rails since 2006 and I would love to get professional experience with the framework.

I guess in general you could say I'm kind of nut for frameworks. They make everyday development so much more productive and make working in teams so much easier given that code structure is enforced by the framework. Developers know where to put things and where things should exist. That is if the framework does put such good-will-restrictions in place. Which some don't, like Zend Framework. Which is more a component library since it doesn't come with a defined way to use. It is very loosely coupled, which is why I often use it in various projects. But it doesn't help structure code as well as other frameworks manage to do. In cases where you are continuing work on somebody else's code you often cannot choose to simply change the whole structure. Here you can extend the code base pretty well with Zend Framework.

When I'm not coding I love to take pictures. I have a serious passion for photography. It's fulfilling in creative ways (Code Monkey quote). At first I thought it was a simple hobby but it seems to pull me back in more every day. Take a look at some of my pictures on flickr if you want to see some of my work.
